Not a lot of help has been provided towards the Dragons seeding scenarios since our original posting on Thursday. Today will mark the last big chance to see a move up as a number of automatic qualifying bids will be locked up. We’ll take a look at those below, but first, the lay of the seeding land.
Below is an average ranking from the first 10, top ranked, veteran (3+years) bracketology sites that have been updated within the past 48 hours as ranked at http://www.bracketmatrix.com. The same process was used to determine a potential opponent.
As you can see, there are nine AQ bids up for grabs in our neighborhood, though the MAC, Big West, SWAC and MEAC won’t have any effects on Drexel’s seeding. With Iona winning the MAAC, that leaves the following matchups today that could allow the Dragons to bump up a couple of spots or even a seed line.
Southland
NET | KenPom | Sagarin | BPI | ELO | Proj Seed
Abilene Christian | 83 | 95 | 109 | 93 | 88 | 14 |
Nicholls | 180 | 192 | 201 | 153 | 119 | 16 |
Big Sky
NET | KenPom | Sagarin | BPI | ELO | Proj Seed
Montana St | 221 | 223 | 215 | 221 | 194 | 16 |
E Washington | 114 | 110 | 110 | 107 | 91 | 14 |
WAC
NET | KenPom | Sagarin | BPI | ELO | Proj Seed
NM State | 160 | 143 | 140 | 128 | 140 | 15 |
Grand Canyon | 117 | 118 | 131 | 86 | 147 | 15 |
Obviously we’re all Nicholls and Montana St fans today as they should obtain 16 seeds. We should also root for New Mexico St as they’d likely also be a 15 seed with metrics comparable to Drexel’s but a worse NET rating could allow the Dragons a possibility to gain a slot. I’ve seen a couple of projected brackets putting Iona as a 15 with Drexel getting a 16 – which is trouble.
So it looks most likely we’ll be staring at a 2 seed come tomorrow evening as an opponent, but hope for a better matchup springs eternal. Enjoy the games and good luck to Coach Mallon, her staff and the women’s team in their quest to sweep the CAA.
