Drexel vs Boston University – Preview

The Boston University Terriers are coached by half of the Jones brothers, both of whom are excellent. His brother has had more success at Yale but they both know what they are doing. BU is an experienced team that figures to end the season in the upper half of the Patriot league. Drexel would not be expected to finish that high.

With four returning starters, BU opened against rival Northeastern and came from way down late to pull the upset. Sure Northeastern was down a couple of key players but it was an impressive outing by BU, who made some sound adjustments to swing the game. Yes, Northeastern remains the favorite to win the Colonial.

BU then blew a lead and the game to a very strong Vermont team, but bounced back with an impressive win over always tough Albany. What may be a bit sobering for Drexel fans is that they played at Eastern Michigan also and got blown out 80-62. Unfortunately, I feel that was just a clunker in an otherwise great start.

BU does not see a zone like EMU plays in the Patriot League. They did not play well against it. Unfortunately, that makes it all the more likely they will be ready today in front of what will likely be a small thanksgiving break crowd.

Drexel played far and away their best game yet in their road win at La Salle, but I think La Salle will struggle with a new system. I found it strange that the explorers fired Giannini. Trying to become the next Villanova requires better facilities more money and a few other choice words that I shall skip.  They aren’t there, or anywhere close.  The expectations up on Olney Ave just seem completely unrelated to reality.

This should be a tight game. BU for sure is the better team. Has Drexel improved enough to overcome the talent gap? Jones knows what he is doing, so my guess is that DU isn’t there yet.

BU 76 Drexel 74
