Loyola Maryland finally gave up on Head Coach GG Smith. They hired Tavares Hardy, an excellent recruiter who has tremendous pedigree having worked most recently under Josh Pastner, prior to that John Thompson III and most notably the great Bill Carmody. He should be a huge upgrade.
The Greyhounds returned some talent, most importantly their point guard Isaiah Hart. They are coming off arguably their best game of the year, a comfortable 75-65 win over a struggling Mt St Mary’s team. Andrew Kostecka and the aforementioned Hart had a combined 43 points in that contest. Prior to that Loyola had a mixed bag of results. I do expect them to improve. Perhaps their last win will be the start.
Drexel surprised me with the ease of their win over Robert Morris. Obviously Wynter has been a revelation this year, but it has been the huge output of Alihan Demir that has elevated the team.
Loyola remains a struggling Patriot league program. Drexel remains a middling Colonial team. The latter is better. With little travel and not much of a crowd, the home advantage should be minimal but Drexel’s talent is better, at least for now. That should prove enough.
